After
11 years and 295 victories, Sheridan College’s Head Lady
Generals Volleyball coach and this year’s Wyoming Community
College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Todd Cooper, has
made the decision to resign his post at SC effective June 30.
“Coach Cooper will be greatly missed by his players, colleagues
and friends,” SC Athletic Director Joel Davidson said. “Todd was
very loyal to Sheridan College – whether it was in the classroom
or on the floor. He was always willing to step up and help the
school out & for that he will be missed. He was very successful
on the floor here, but where he was most successful was – with
the relationships he has formed with his players. He is still
very close to his former players and that speaks volumes to his
character.”
No stranger to the Golden Dome, Cooper has had the unique
opportunity to be a part of the lives of the many outstanding
athletes who’ve come and gone, which is something he said he’ll
never forget.
“What I’ve enjoyed most about
coaching at Sheridan College is the relationships I’ve developed
with the student athletes,” he said. “Over the years I’ve
received calls, cards and letters from former players who inform
me of their successes in their personal or professional lives.
It’s fulfilling to me to know that I may have had a part in that
success.”
Although
Cooper is unsure as to what the future holds for him, he said he
is looking forward to facing new challenges in the future.
“Coaching has been a great
opportunity for me,” he said. “I’ve been very fortunate to have
the opportunities I’ve had in the coaching profession, but it
comes to a certain point when a person is ready to face new and
different challenges. And that’s where I am right now.”
He continued: “I’ve been very
fortunate to be in a profession that I’ve loved and have been
very passionate about for many years. I have accomplished many
goals throughout my coaching career.”
Cooper attributes his success to
the many great athletes he’s coached over the years, as well as
the many quality assistant coaches he’s worked with.
The Sheridan Community was also
instrumental in the overall success of the program.
“I could not have obtained the success I’ve had at SC without
the support of the administration, staff, faculty, students,”
Cooper said. “The Sheridan community was also a big supporter of
our athletic program. We’ve had a tremendous set of host
families through my years here who made a huge difference in
what the athletes did here.”
“In the end, when I look back at
my career at Sheridan College I feel blessed to have lived my
dream.”
Davidson said the process to find
Cooper’s replacement will begin immediately.
