Rodeo Coaches

2009 - 2010

Marc Gilkerson
Head Coach

Sheridan College is pleased to announce its new head rodeo coach and student recruiter, Marc Gilkerson.

“I’m definitely excited to be here in Sheridan,” Gilkerson said. “I am excited about this year’s team.  We have some talent returning as well as some new student athletes that will be fun to watch.”

Gilkerson who was raised and graduated from Hobson, MT, comes to Sheridan College from Cave Creek, Arizona, where he was operating his own business building bits, spurs, and jewelry.

Gilkerson was one of over 20 applicants who a committee at Sheridan College reviewed.

“The main item that really made Marc stand out was his commitment to the sport as well as his commitment to education,” Steve Smiley, SC’s Athletic Director said. “We feel like he can really get people in the community excited about our rodeo team and he will also be a great recruiter for the Enrollment Services Office.”

“The other piece we are excited about is Marc’s ability as a horseman. He has trained and shown several national award-winning working cow horses,” Smiley added. “This experience will add some additional energy to Marc’s coaching. His priorities and his values will fit right in at SC. He has the knowledge to make him a good coach and his values will keep the students going in the right direction. Academics first, rodeo second.”

“I believe that getting a degree is important,” Gilkerson said. “I look forward to helping our young cowgirls and cowboys to reach their potential in the arena, in the classroom, and in life. Sheridan College rodeo has a history of strong teams, I hope we see both our Men’s Team and our Women’s Team at the CNFR in 2010.”

Gilkerson holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Chadron State College.

His goals for the Sheridan College Rodeo team include helping the students learn the importance of setting goals, hard work and commitment to themselves, their school and their team. The Sheridan College Pat Hamilton Rodeo will be at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds September 25-27.
