With the start of college hoops right around the corner, many former Sheridan College Generals are hard at work preparing for the upcoming season with their respective programs.
PJ Savoy is looking to build upon a memorable sophomore season with Florida State where he was part of a team that finished 26-9 on the year. At one point during their season, the Seminoles climbed to the number 6th ranked team in the country after wins over Duke, Louisville, and Virginia. The 'Noles went into the national tournament as a 3 seed, but were upset by Xavier. PJ finished 5th in points-per-game for the Seminoles, while shooting over 40% from three-point range. His top game of the year came against Southern Miss when he hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 27 points.
Another Sheridan College alum who made an appearance in the NCAA national tournament last year was North Carolina Central Eagle, Pablo Rivas. Pablo played in all 34 games for NCCU, averaging 7ppg and 4.4 rpg. One of his best games of the year came against SEC opponent, the Missouri Tigers, when he led the Eagles to an upset victory on the road with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Unfortunately, the season came to an end on national television for the Eagles, as they lost in the 1st round of the national tournament to UC Davis, 63-67.
Xavier Jackson will be donning black and gold this year as he suits up for one of the best mid-major programs in the country, VCU. Xavier led the Generals in scoring last year while helping the team finish 23-9 on the year. The 2017-18 season will be a great experience for Xavier, as VCU will face off against teams like Virginia, Marquette, Texas and Wichita State.
