The #22 ranked Sheridan College Generals men's basketball team left Riverton, WY on Saturday night with a sense of relief, and also feeling a little lucky. With under 14 seconds remaining in their conference matchup against Central Wyoming College, Channel Banks drove the lane and made a tough floater through a lot of contact to put the Generals up a point. Out of a timeout and with 6.3 seconds left, CWC freshman Marquis White drove the lane and was able to draw foul, sending him to the line for two free throws with only 1.2 seconds remaining. After having the first free throw bounce off the front of the rim and roll off to the right, White missed the 2nd free throw to the left and into the hands of Sheridan College freshman, Camron Reece.
Not only were the Generals fortuante enough to fight off the upset by CWC, they also took sole possession of 2nd place in the Region IX North standings, coming into the game tied with CWC at 5-2 in conference. With the win, the Generals knotched their 2nd consecutive 20-win season, improving to 20-3 on the season and 6-2 in North play.
In the win, sharpshooting sophomore Ladan Ricketts led the Generals with 17 points, going 4-9 from 3-point range and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Joshua Bagley continued his hot shooting as well, connecting on 4-7 from downtown and finishing with 14 points. AJ Bramah and Channel Banks were the other two Generals in double digits, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Generals are at home this Wednesday night as they host Western Wyoming Community College. Wednesday's home game will also be Military Appreciation night. All Military Veterans will receive free admission, as well as a free hot dog, bag of chips, and a fountain drink. Women's game starts at 5:30 PM, followed by the men's game at 7:30 PM.
