Generals Start Conference Play with Two Strong Wins

The Sheridan College women's basketball team started the conference season this past Wednesday (January 10) with an 82-43 victory over Central Wyoming College. They then traveled to Rocksprings, Wyoming on Saturday (January 13) for a matchup against Western Wyoming Community College where they secured a 72-52 win.

In Wednesday's game against the CWC Rustlers, the Generals were led in scoring by Sophomore Raelynn Keefer (Forsyth, MT) with 21 points, 3 assists, and 0 turnovers.  Although Keefer was the only General to score in double digits, there were a number of other strong contributions across the team.  Brooke Cargal (Gillette, WY) and Noora Parttimaa (Finland) each had 9 points, while Ashleigh Frampton (Australia) and Madisan Chavez (Hardin, MT) chipped in 8 pts a piece. Frampton also had 8 rebounds followed by Aubrey Meiwald (Hardin, MT) with 6. Even more impressive was the lady General's ability to share the ball, every member of the team racked up at least one assist. They finished the game with 18 total assists and a positive assist to turnover ratio for the first time this season.

During Saturday's matchup against the Mustangs of Western Wyoming, the Generals jumped out to an impressive 40-10 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. After the first quarter the Generals went cold from the 3 point line, going 1 for 11 from behind the arc in the second half but their excellent start and defensive efforts allowed them to hold off any advances from the Mustangs. Keefer led all scorers again with 20 points. Fellow sophomore guard, Cargal chipped in 11 points, and freshman, Parttimaa had 13 points and 7 rebounds.

These two victory's put the Generals at the top of the conference with a 2-0 record and move them to an overall record of 9-8. They will be back in action at home this Wednesday against the Pioneers of Miles City Community College. Tip-off is at 5:30 PM in the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome followed by the men's game at 7:30 PM.
