The Sheridan College women's basketball team were handed their first loss of the conference season at home Wednesday night, 76-59, against the Pioneers of Miles Community College.
In the first minute the Generals jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but once the Pioneers had points on the board they started to apply full court pressure. The press created problems for Sheridan who ended the game with 28 team turnovers. MCC would retake the lead midway through the first quarter and never look back, ending the quarter up 24-8.
After the slow first quarter, Sheridan College continued to battle MCC with only 1 point separating the two teams in the final three quarters. They cut the lead to 10 points early in the 4th quarter but were never able to get the deficit under double digits.
Sophomore Brooke Cargal (Gillette, Wyoming) led the Generals with 17 points going 5-9 from behind the arc. Fellow sophomore guard, Raelynn Keefer (Forsyth, Montana), chipped in 14 points and 3 assists. Ashleigh Frampton (Bundaberg, Australia) snagged 10 boards, including 3 on the offensive glass.
With this loss Sheridan College falls to 2-1 in Region IX conference action and 9-9 overall. Miles City improves to 1-2 in conference and 15-4 on the season. The Generals will face the Pioneers again in Miles City on Saturday, February 10.
The Generals will be back at home in the dome this Saturday, January 20, against Little Big Horn College. Tip-off is at 3:00 PM followed by the men's match-up at 5:00 PM.
