The 2017-18 season will serve as Ryan Davis’ first as head coach of the Sheridan College Lady Generals.

Davis came to Sheridan from Casper College, where he served as the assistant coach for Thunderbirds head coach Dwight Gunnare. During the 2016-17 season, Ryan helped lead Casper to a 22-9 record, finishing third in Region IX’s North sub-region. Davis was in charge of all individual workouts for the T-Birds and helped three sophomores move on to four-year universities.

Before Casper, Ryan spent one year as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Black Hills State University. BHSU experienced a year of firsts at the Division II level during the 2015-16 season — First NCAA DII National Tournament appearance; first win in the NCAA DII National Tournament; first top-32 finish in NCAA DII; first time hosting a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament game; and first top-four finish in the RMAC. The Yellow Jackets finished the year with a 21-8 record.

This is Davis’ third stop at Sheridan College. He most recently served as an assistant coach under Frank McCarthy during the 2014-15 Lady Generals’ season, Davis’ first within a women’s basketball program. The team finished with a 25-7 record and made it as high as 12th in the National Junior College Athletics Association national rankings. Davis’ first coaching job was also at Sheridan College, where he spent a year assisting men’s basketball coach Steve Smiley in 2010-11. The Generals finished 24-10 and were runners-up in the Region IX Tournament. Davis also spent two seasons with the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (DII) men’s basketball team.

Davis holds a degree in sports management from the University of Kansas, where he also served as a student assistant for the Jayhawks men’s basketball program from 2006-2010. In those years, the Jayhawks won four-straight Big IX titles and a national championship in 2008. As a student assistant, Davis’ responsibilities included assisting coaches with scouting reports, individual skill development workouts, scout-team player, equipment manager, and assisting with film breakdown.

Currently, Davis is in the process of completing his master’s degree in kinesiology through the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He is a native of Overland Park, Kansas, where he attended Bishop Miege High School.
