The Lady Gens have advanced to the Region IX Semifinals to be held October 27th, in Denver, at the Metro State Athletic Complex. Sheridan will face the #1 seed from the Region IX South Division, Otero.
The two squads haven't faced each other this season which Sheridan College Head Coach Mallery Marshall says will serve as an advantage. "I'm looking forward to a fresh match-up", said Marshall. "When you play teams multiple times they learn your strengths and they know how to prepare for your system of play."
Otero is coming off a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime victory against Gillette College. The Lady Rattlers pulled off a last minute equalizer in regulation to send the game into overtime. Sheridan comes off a less exciting game beating Trinidad State 5-0 on their homefield in the quarterfinal match.
Marshall says despite having the best conference season in school history, (6-2), ultimately the true measure of success in her eyes is how the team plays in the next game. "It was amazing to see the improvement in our level of play throughout the conference season. That being said, in the post season it becomes a what-have-you-done-lately scenario. We have a huge opportunity if we play our style and execute our system."
Sheridan kicks-off Friday at 11AM. The Region IX Championship is October 28th at 4PM.
