Head Coach

Head Coach Frank McCarthy is beginning his eleventh season at Sheridan College. The Lady Generals are coming off of another outstanding season winning the NJCAA North Sub-Region 9 Title for the 8th consecutive season, and making it to the Region 9 Tournament Quarterfinals.. Not only did the team excel on the court, but also in the classroom, where they finished #4 in the nation with a team GPA of 3.2. Nine of Coach McCarthy's eleven players were named to the Academic All-Region Team this past season. Over this past summer, Coach McCarthy also was honored by his colleagues from the state of Wyoming as he was inducted into the Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

The 2008-09 season still ranks as one of the best in the history of Sheridan College, winning the NJCAA North Sub-Region and the Region 9 Championship to advance to the National Tournament in Salina, KS. The Generals finished with an overall record of 29-7. The Generals were ranked as high as 13th in the nation, as they led the country in Free Throw % at 72.8% and 3-point % at 48.0%.

Before his move to Sheridan College, McCarthy had an extremely successful venture at Montana State University, a Division I institution in Bozeman, MT. In his final year at MSU Bozeman, Coach McCarthy's team finished second in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats gained their best win-loss record in seven years, with an 18-9 standing. Prior to his experience at Bozeman, Coach McCarthy served for 10 years as head coach for the Montana State University – Billings Yellowjackets, a Division two school, where he posted an incredible 190-90 record, becoming the All Time Winningest Coach. Under Coach McCarthy's direction the Yellowjackets advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1999, and a Pacific West Conference crown. In 2009, that team was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Montana State – Billings. His work was rewarded as he was named the Pacific West Coach of the Year, the Region VIII Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year honors. Seven of Coach McCarthy's Yellowjackets were named All-Americans, while three were honored with Pacific West Conference Players of the Year. Frequently his teams were polled in the top twenty lists for Division II institutions, while appearing in five consecutive NCAA tournaments, and four straight Pacific West titles. In 2004, he was inducted into the Montana State – Billings Hall of Fame.

Junior College basketball is nothing new to McCarthy. Before taking the position at MSU – Billings, McCarthy led the Eastern Wyoming Lady Lancers to a 19-11 record, setting a new mark for school record victories. His time at EWC earned him the honor of the Wyoming Conference Coach of the Year. He was also named Wyoming Conference Coach of the Year for the 1987-88, 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2007-08 seasons. Previous to his collegiate endeavors, Coach McCarthy was named Wyoming High School Coach of the Year four times, and the winningest High School coach in Powell, Wyoming. He posted an 86-50 record, winning five regional championships and four conference titles, and in his final year of high school coaching, his team advanced to the State Championship game. McCarthy began his coaching career at the Sidney Boy's Club in Australia, returning to the U.S. to head both the boy's and girl's basketball programs at St. Labre High School in Ashland, MT.

Student athlete is the term used to describe Coach McCarthy's recruits and team members. While at MSU Billings, the Yellowjackets were selected eighth overall for WBCA Academic Honor Roll, and had a graduation rate of 97.6%. In 1997-98 all five senior starters were named First Team All-Academic. McCarthy earned his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Eastern Montana College in 1979 and received a Master's Degree in Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in 1988. During the off season Coach McCarthy serves as the head coach for the Wyoming – Montana All Star Classic, a series featuring the ten best players from each state. He has compiled a 564-300 record in 33 years of coaching. Frank and his wife, Amy, have 4 children, sons Jake and McKye, and Luke, and daughter, Taylor.

Todd Cooper
Assistant Coach

Assistant Coach Todd Cooper is returning to the General's coaching ranks after a 3 year hiatus from coaching. This will be Coach Cooper's 3rd stint as an assistant for the Lady General's basketball program.

Cooper graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1989 with a degree in Education, as well as an endorsement for teaching physical education. Previously Cooper graduated from Sheridan High School, and received an Associates of Arts degree from Sheridan College.

Cooper began his coaching career as the Head Junior High Volleyball Coach where he led his teams to two consecutive conference titles in Lake Havasu AZ. While at Lake Havasu, Cooper also assisted the boys high school basketball program, as well as running the summer individual workout training program for high School boys basketball program. Cooper then found his way back to Wyoming, as the Head Boys Basketball Coach in Lovell, where in 2 years at the helm led his team to a 4th place finish at the Wyoming High School State Championships in AA Basketball.

Cooper then moved back to Sheridan where he assisted both Women's Basketball and Volleyball for the Generals. After one year he moved into the Head Volleyball position. Coach Cooper remained in this position from 1997 until 2008. During those 11 years Cooper amassed 295 wins and 200 losses for a win percentage of 68%. In that span he led the Lady Generals to two Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference Championships, as well as three Division I National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Championships. Cooper's teams finished 4th, 7th, and 13th in the Division I NJCAA National Championships during those years. Cooper earned Coach of the year honors from the WCCAC and District 13 in 1997, Region IX and District 6 in 1999, District 1 in 2005 and Coach of the year in the WCCAC in 2007.

Cooper is excited and energized to again be involved with the outstanding athletic programs at Sheridan College. Todd is married to Anara, and he has 5 children, Tyler, Shayley, Braxton, Rhylee, and Beknazar.
